Why Etappe

Long walks rarely fail on fitness.

They fail on feet, blisters, overload and the wrong build-up. Build up too fast and you get injured. Build up too slowly and you stand at the start in July unprepared.

  1. Walking time, not pace

Running apps think in pace and kilometres per run. Etappe thinks in walking time and in several long days in a row.

  2. Build up gently

The long walks grow step by step. Lighter weeks are built in, so feet, tendons and knees keep up.

  3. Feet first

Every session has breaks with a foot check. Report a complaint and the plan adapts instead of simply building up further.

Etappe thinks like a walking coach. For ordinary people with a job and a busy life, without a coach by their side.

Your goal

What are you training for?

Etappe is built for the Vierdaagse. Other long goals work too.

4 days 30, 40 or 50 km each

Vierdaagse

Nijmegen, Netherlands · 20 to 23 July 2027

The main case, the one Etappe is built for. Four days in a row, a different route every day. Etappe knows your regulation distance by sex and year of birth, civilian or military participation, start windows, finish times and the four day routes.

The plan practises Back-to-back days, multi-day blocks and a dress rehearsal.

How Etappe works

A plan that thinks along.

Step 1

Questions, not a form

Etappe asks step by step. First the language, then goal and distance, for the Vierdaagse also about you, your past participations and your start place.

Then your level: longest walk, kilometres per week, pace, weight. Finally your week: training days, the day for the long walk, time on normal days and whether you want strength training.

With Apple Health much of this is already filled in.

Etappe goal screen for the Vierdaagse with a countdown in days and the four days.
Step 2

Week by week in phases

The long walks grow gently. Back-to-back days and multi-day blocks practise walking on tired legs, followed by a dress rehearsal. Lighter weeks are planned in.

Skip something, fall ill or report pain in your feet, knee, shin or Achilles tendon, and the plan adapts. If your heart rate on a walk is too high, it holds off on building up for now.

Plan view: weeks until the start, the Foundation phase and the next long walks week by week.
  1. Foundation Feet, tendons and habit. The distances grow slowly.
  2. Build The long walks get properly long.
  3. Specific Several long days in a row and the dress rehearsal.
  4. Taper Less volume before the start.
  5. Event The reason for it all.
Step 3

Every day, clear what is next

Distance, duration, pace and the steps of the session: warm-up, main part, breaks with a foot check, drinking.

Logging takes one tap when everything went to plan. Or in detail, with effort, complaints and weather. Plus a week bar and a month calendar.

Session of the day: long walk of 15 km in 3:05 hours, with warm-up, long stretch and breaks.
Readiness

An honest number.

From 0 to 100, Etappe shows how ready you are for the start. And tells you what is missing most.

How the number is made up

  • Your longest walks of recent weeks, measured against the distance your goal demands.

Readiness score: 39 out of 100, building. History per week and the note that the long distance is missing most.
